Oil Fires

I think you need to cut down on the amount of oil fires, there is one almost every other turn.

within the time limit for keeping record of attacks,

29,597 attacks have resulted in no oil burning

4,732 have resulted in a burn level 1

1,926 have resulted in a burn level 2

I will admit these ratios are a bit higher than I would like. However, with more people becoming inactive due to the round ending, more oil is building up and oil fires are becoming more likely. Also, this value increases because if you get an oil fire you are more likely to attack that person again than if there was no oil fire, because there stands to be a lot of oil there. So this increases the ratio a bit more than it would otherwise be.

ok, so the burning oil is because of the amount of oil a person has?

yes, it is porportional to several things

1) if the person has built up X number of turns worth of oil production, oil may burn

2) if the persons amount of oil built up is x% of their score, oil may burn

3) if your attack power is several times higher than their defense power, oil may burn

if and how much oil burns has to do with the combination and severity of 1, 2, and 3.

Ehh, maybe it's because I didn't start until after oilburning was implemented, but it makes too much sense to me to do away with. Yeah, there were times where I cringed because 200 million barrels got burned, but at the same time, I still got 100 million barrels. And it made me use a tiny amount of strategy in my attacks (such as trying to knock the oil burn to 1/3 instead of 2/3 before using large amounts of turns at once).

Plus, I like the idea of causing that much destruction, especially killing thousands upon thousands of troops. :twisted:

I also think that strategy of trying to reduce the burn to 1/3rd is why so many attacks have burned oil. If someone doesnt burn oil you pretty much attack them once or twice. Once with 1 turn, and then maybe another time with 15 turns.

If someone burns oil you might attack them 10 times, 8 times with 1 turn, and twice with 15 turns. So it really skews my statistics even more.
