is there any benifit of having a commander or officers?

being an officer, you get a bonus to your unit production equal to 15% of your commander's unit production

being a commander, you get a bonus whenever someone clicks the referal link of one of your officers

being an officer, you can see the referal links of your commander's other officers, increasing the chances you will get referal clicks.

Why would a Chinese guy become an officer in an American army? I don't get it... Does it not matter (as far as the production bonuses, etc.)?
